Outside my window its all grey and the rain is pouring down. I find myself in need of a mindtrip with a summerly sort of vibe. Which is exactly what I’m offering you all as well. 

-The Americas is the natural habitat of the hummingbird and Latin America is primarily where they live. Much like my similarly themed: La Flor De Sur and Southwards before, I’ve collected a dozen sweet old songs and almost as many (dance) tunes - either originating from, or inspired by musical traditions from  somewhere south of Miami. Or maybe south of Key West. Once again prepare yourself for melodramatic voices, great melodies, infectious rhythms and much beauty! -Moahaha

Dream Weapons present: EARTHDUST ONE C90 + ASTRAL LOUNGE C90 (Radio AlHara-revisitation 4 and 3)

Earthdust One will broadcast at the wonderful Radio AlHara tomorrow, thursday at 7:00 PM Betlehem time.  I was never 100% pleased with the opening track (As an introductory song. I do like it), so for this version I've scrapped it. Earthdust One now opens with: 1 Mario Migliardi - Tema di Andromeda... (over My Love Hath Vow'd). Other than that it's identical,  just a little "remastered". Still I think a download link to this new version is in its place:

-My first ever mix for Dream Weapons from December 2015, was supposed to start off in gentlest way - while slowly metamorphosing into unnerving darkness over 90 minutes. But fortunately for the listener that plan didn't really work for me. So I started blending a few dark, chilly moods in between the warm and comforting tunes and vice versa - instead. Much better. Folk, avantgarde, soul, enka, surf, jazz… almost every new song introduces a radically different style of music, but I dare say it’s quite an enjoyable ride -Moahaha

Late last August I compiled a folk-mix sort of tributing the coming of autumn in all its glory*. This year’s autumnal mix however, is for the great indoors. Contemplative, (but not meditative), gently strange songs and instrumentals for book reading, board games, playing cards, knitting, drinking tea or wine, making soup, staring out the window… or whatever you feel like like doing when days get colder and shorter. This time I actually made the cover art first, and then I started collecting music I enjoy that I associated with the visuals in one way or another -Moahaha

Dream Wapons present: SEVEN DAEMONS & ELECTRIC SHEEP C90 (Radio AlHara-revisitation 1 and 2)

We weren't entirely certain how to go about this, but the great Radio AlHara is planning to broadcast all of Dream Weapons present mixes. They wanted to start with our oldest C90's, and send them in chronological order evey second and fourth thursday each month at 7:00 PM Betlehem time. We love that they'll be getting a little extra exposure many years later.  And may use this as an excuse to repost and reintroduce our (by now seven year old) mixtapes in relation to them being broadcast. I'm sure quite a few of you haven't gotten around to check out all our nearly 200 posts yet anyway, so these old mixtapes may be brand new to maybe most of you anyway? In this day and age I can’t wait for the dog days to end, but as a child I dreaded the coming of autumn. Remember feeling free, doing nothing, riding a bike with that girl or boy that became your best friend while on holiday? Or maybe you befriended a neighborhood cat. I always did. A warm and loving bittersweet farewell to the last breath of summer. Also, the actual songs here are mostly catchy, fun and (from) all over the place -Moahaha

Dream Weapons present: THE QUIET EARTH C60

While waiting for a fun and lively radio special to broadcast, I decided to share this failed attempt on compiling an hour of «pleasant background music». I guess that’s outside my field of expertise. But it's still a nice mix! All very quiet and non-intrusive, but in a blue and melancholic way. Not as dark as the cover art suggests, but it would probably make for a beautiful soundtrack to a classy horror movie -Moahaha

Dream Weapons present: DARK SWEETS C90

My official mixtape "debut" from some time in late 2011. Until then I had only made compilations for myself, a few friends, former girlfriends and my wife. I’m thankful that oVo contacted me and invited me to join inn on सølγ שаябlɛş. This was the first of the two contributions I shared before it got shut down and Owl went incognito. Pretty much. 

 As the years have gone by I’ve found additional info and learned that what I thought was a mix filled exclusively with pre-rock 78RPM-era tunes has three songs from the 1960’s on it. But they sure sound older!

The version I'm sharing here is almost identical, but better sounding and hopefully better looking too. Here's how I presented it back when it was originally shared:

-Dark Sweets is actually a by-product of compiling hours and hours of 50 – 100 year old music from all over the world for a New Years Eve party. For this mix I singled out my favorites tunes among the obscure tracks ripped directly from 78’s. I’ve added a few hits from my own collection but tried to stay away from any tracks I’ve discovered on other comps and mixtapes. So this should be a unique listening experience for most of you -Moahaha

Mostly mildly pulsating Kosmische / Berlin School (inspired) electronic music. I think of night drives, wet asphalt, gas stations and neon lights. But it’ll probably sound nice for a trip to the countryside as well. Or into space. Or at home… I don’t know about you, but how I experience music changes with my surroundings anyway. Just listen to it whenever or wherever you feel like it. 

 

-I don’t even have a drivers license. Nor do I own a car. But if I did I know I would drive around for hours for no other purpose than listening to music -Moahaha

Dream Weapons present: THERE IS DEATH IN THE POT C90 (2011)

 

If some of you «regulars» have stumbled over any of my pre-DWp mixtapes, its bound to be either my first mix ever (titled Dark Sweets) or this one. My second and final C90 shared at a mythical place in cyberspace that existed in the great era of Mp3’s. Yes, before streaming, Spotify, Tidal etc… there was सølγ שаябlɛş. Well, at least it meant a lot to many of us music nutters back in the days.

-A first out of many self portraits done with music made by others. After listening to these ninety minutes of music, you’ll know me better than you would after having actually spent an hour and a half with me. This was what I wrote when There is Death in the Pot was originally shared back in 2011:

I have these childhood memories of watching films or whatever on TV, when I was too young to understand the essence of what was actually going and why. I still carry the strong emotional impact these experiences had on little innocent me. They’ve shaped my preferences and psyche just as much as things that happened in real life. 

So I wanted to recreate a kind of fictional or impressionistic version of eras past. A mixed up adventure of castles, exotic travels, strange languages (Even english was a foreign language. It still is) and bygone cultures, dark forests, beautiful maidens, horses, warriors, pilgrims, drunks, impressive sideburns and death. Add all the confusing grown up stuff such as forbidden love, hate, sex, evil, perversions and funerals. Hundreds or maybe thousands of artificial memories melted into one pot -Moahaha

(self)promotion: Eulipion Corps - Aenean Fields (Wormhole World, 2022)

Eulipion Corps is Julian Goldberger on guitar, synths, electric piano, vintage drum machines, field recordings, and various other sound making devices. 

I, or Moahaha made the album cover! Julian first contacted Dream Weapons as a blog visitor who liked our mixes, and over the last year or so, we've gotten to know each other a little bit. I also checked out his own, self released music, enjoyed what I heard - and ended up including one of the tracks "The Long Goodbye" on It Was a Very Good Lightyear. Sometime in late 2021 he started to work with the UK based label Wormhole World, and asked me if I was interested in designing the artwork for his fourthcoming album. I told him I was just a happy amateur, but that's seemingly what he wanted:). At first I tried to work with the traditional shape of a square image. But nothing felt right until I went about it as if I was compiling another mixtape. As you can see it ended up having a distinct DWp-signature look.

So what does this sound like? The visuals will hopefully give you an indication but I find it comparable to the sort of electronic music in combination with warm acoustic parts - as featurered on the aforementioned mix + Innerouterspace, On Ice, Tveklang, Return to TRAPPIST-1 etc. I mean it's not the exact same of course, but if you enjoy the music featured on those, there's a great chance you (like me) will dig this. Dream Weapons present: SPATIAL JAZZ C90

 

Yet another vintage mix of mine that hasn’t been available for years - reuploaded for anyone interested. A fairly strange one. At least if you're not already "into jazz". In many ways it's the The Infinite Streams older, brainier sibling. I work alone in my studio and these are some perfect examples of my typical "working music". Not always, but sometimes. It helps me stay awake, focused and alert. Here's what I wrote about it back in April 2013:

-When I first heard Grachan Moncur III's early to-mid sixties compositions such as Evolution and Esoteric I think I had (and still have) a similar tingling sensation or brain orgasm comparable to what ASMR folks say they get from listening to whispering voices. Or maybe its closer to what mathematicians experience when they get an esthetical delight out of the supreme beauty of math? I'm just guessing. But this is only partly what spatial jazz is about. Its the careful attention to space, and I don't mean outer space but a soundspace - a room. Out To Lunch is probably the most well known example of jazz I know of that that can give you a hint. I ended up with 16 compositions and some of the bigger names in jazz are represented. All of them at their least conventional and most out there - except for Cecil Taylor, who is at his most stuctured. Hope you like it! -Moahaha
