Dream Weapons present: EXOPLANETARY MISSION C90

Analogue vintage electronic music for you. Warm as toast and cold as marble. A unique musical language and way of shaping melodies that I only find within these soundscapes - and mainly from this era (these are all 1974-1984*). I hardly know anyone in real life that share my passion for this type of music. So I’m glad you’ve warmly welcomed these mixes - seemingly about as much as every other musical hang-up of mine. Try it. A total trip from start to finish! -Moahaha

Dream Weapons present: STILLNESS IN MOVEMENT C90

With «Music for contemporary dance choreography» as the subheading. It felt more appropriate than the often used «music for an imaginary film»-variation. I just slapped it on for fun, but I actually watch a lot of contemporary dance/ballet. And I do think most of these 18 pieces included, would be perfect for performative dancing.

This is actually that darker sibling of «Walk with me in Beauty» I mentioned (in my previous post) I was working on. A different kind of beauty. I think it’s all quite stunning really. Modern Classical, Electronic, Ambient, Experimental (often combined), a little doom laden Folk + a slice of Gamelan Jazz(?) compositions - or musicians musicking. All taken from recent releases. Not at all unlike my approach to the present tense-mix shared earlier this year. Deeply in debt to newothermusic, I’ve been searching in these musical fields of late. When this new-other-music sneaks upon me, aims for the heart and hits - it’s truly an earth-shattering experience -Moahaha

1 Frederikke Hoffmeier - The Orphanage
2 Dead Space Chamber Music - The Grail Carol
3 Our Love Will Destroy The World - Venus Skeleton Green
4 Rebecca Foon & Aliayta Foon-Dancoes - Surrounded By You

6 Anthony Pateras - 1: Reise der Schatten 2: Sans Visages #1
7 Ensemble Nist-Nah - Snakelike
8 Tim Didymus & Foster Neville - Hidden
9 Aaron Martin & Umberto - Spectacle of Mystery

10 Michele Andreotti - Laubia
11 Cerys Hafana - Luke Wake Dirge
12 Jacaszek, Jan Kleefstra, Romke Kleefstra - It Deel
13 Poppy H - We All Felt It At The Time But Now We All Don't Feel It No More

16 Andrea Belfi - Pastorale
17 Aho Ssan & Resina - Egress II
18 Tristanne - Maison Mary

Dream Weapons present: WALK WITH ME IN BEAUTY C90

I was compiling a similar, but darker mix and this one is mostly made out of the considered tracks that felt too outright beautiful to fit within that context. I’m not all that seasonal in my music listening habits. But it’s in the midst of summer here, so it felt appropriate to share the «nicest» among the two, first. Ninety minutes of wintery melancholy and longing instead of straight up gloom. Basically a collection that combines Modern Classical, Ethereal Folk with elements of Ambient/Electronic (perhaps bordering on New Age at times). 21 out of 24 tracks are taken from 2024-2025 releases, and the remaining three were released in 2022-2023. For some reason I find that somewhat pleasing in itself -Moahaha

1 Adrian Lane - Pigeon Angel
2 Annelies Monseré - Floods
3 Akira Umeda & Metal Prayers - Ice Maidens Myriad Dream
4 Grabek - The Awakening
5 Loopsel - Det vi inte får
6 Dag Rosenqvist - Decemberljuset
7 Federica Deiana - Leaves
8 Brueder Selke & Midori Hirano - Scale A
9 Raphael Rogiński - Šilinis Viržis
10 Colin Andrew Sheffield - Testament
11 Grischa Lichtenberger - Stranger Things 2
12 Johan Carøe - Sorrow

13 Valentina Magaletti - A Ghost Again
14 Svin & Arhus Sinfonietta - Elegi II
15 Lydia Clapperton - Diane
16 Laura Cannell - Ad Celestum Armoniam
17 marucoporoporo - Conceive the Sea
18 Olga Anna Markowska - Train Ride Home
19 Otto A. Totland - Marka

Dream Weapons present: NOTHING TO FEAR C60

… but fear itself. But apart from the title, Nothing to Fear isn’t inspired by this famous quote from Franklin D. Roosevelt's first inauguration speech. I undertook the task of compiling an hour of tunes that could resemble a collection of horror/giallo score music - while using tracks that aren’t from such films. In fact only two of the songs are lifted from a soundtrack at all.

The eerie beauty of themes composed for vintage horror movies has always held a special place in my music loving heart. While taken out of their visual context, the melodies tend to radiate dreamy melancholy and sadness, rather than something truly sinister. Contemporary scores rarely give me anything, but music seemingly inspired by the aforementioned «golden age» is still being made. So the lion’s share of bands and artists featured, are actually from today’s era.

In a nutshell, my Halloween-mix comes a little early this year -Moahaha

1 Scoen & Cicci Santucci  - Condizionamento
2 Bruce Smeaton - Ascent Music (Reprise)
3 Randy M. Salo - Victor Wants Out
4 André Popp - The Chant Of Mystery
5 Kinetoscope Ensemble - A Boy's Best Friend
6 L'Albero Del Veleno - Postlude - Moros
7 Gino Peguri - Il Ricercato
8 Giadar - 1977
9 Laura Masotto - The Body Is a Tree

10 Non Credo - Gumption
11 Warrington-Runcorn New Town Development Plan - Across the Jubilee Bridge
12 Masaaki Yoshida - There Will Come Soft Rains
13 Klaus Morlock - Ephemera
14 Sean Wolcott - Sisters of the Endless Abyss
15 The Night Monitor - Ripperston Farm
16 Stomu Yamashta - Mountain Pass
17 Romance - End Titles

Dream Weapons present: ENTITIES C90

I always thought it was from a poem but I can’t seem to locate it anywhere, so maybe it’s just a local saying. It goes something like this:

Outside it's spring, but inside of me it's fall

-and that's Norwegians in a nutshell... or maybe it’s just me. Yes, I know it’s summer by now, but I think you catch my drift. And if you do, you’ll also have an idea of what to expect from this mix of mine. Finally, the sun is shining! Let’s stay indoors and listen to darkly tinted, melancholic music all day long -Moahaha

Nothing deep or conceptual about this one:). Dream Weapons present: ILHA FORMOSA C60

Ilha Formosa means Beautiful Island. Portuguese sailors gave the island now known as Taiwan its former name in 1542. Formosa was actually the commonly used name for Taiwan up until the 1960-1970’s. Anyway here’s a collection of female singers and male instrumentalists - all originating from this beautiful island. At least according to my information. My selection contains music spanning over 15 years, from 1968 to 1983. I recognize plenty of both Chinese and Japanese material and influences. Some (or quite a few) of these melodies are based on well known South East Asian traditional songs, but presented with an «updated» westernized approach. Which was typical for this era of Asian popular music practically everywhere, except for in North Korea. This hour of 21 tunes still feature a few peculiar surprises. For instance Taiwan had their own «moogsploitation»-like scene named after Yamaha’s electronic organ series «Electone»*. A pretty amazing discovery for me personally. Full of life, lovely and charming. Enjoy! -Moahaha

*The song in the video underneath is a perfect example of that "scene"

Dream Weapons present: PRESENT TENSE C60

I have to admit that I’m a little proud of this one. It is the sort of mixtape I would have loved for someone else to have compiled - and for me to discover. Twelve compositions released in 2024 and two from 2023 is about as present tense that I’m capable of. Actually it’s way beyond my capabilities in that regard. I made a  playlist titled «Strange Beauty», and somehow this hour of pristine musical gems materialized from within it. Almost.

-Whether leaning mostly toward the traditional, experimental, electronic or ambient - all fourteen compositions can safely be filed under «Modern Classical». In retrospect, I might as well have kept my playlist-title, as these are all strange beauties to my ears -Moahaha

1 Alice Hebborn - Saisons - Mouvement 2
2 Laura Masotto - Dark Horse
3 Bruno Sanfilippo - The Feast of Crows
4 Christopher Cerrone - Beaufort Scales. I & II
5 Malcolm Pardon - Side Effects
6 Kirin McElwain - Work
7 Ljudvägg & L.T. Fisk - Försvinna, återvända

11 Watine - Unbroken Fields
12 Sarah Neufeld, Richard Reed Pary, Rebecca Foon - Georgia
13 Lauré Lussier - 4th Movement - Allegretto
14 Otto A. Totland - Mirror

Antropocen & Distant Drums reuploads

I don't know for how long these have been unavailable, but at some point one of our older file transfer accounts... died. And these two 2016-mixtapes (DWp's 14th & 32rd) only had that one download-option. Let me know if you stumbled over any other of our mixes that needs a reupload. Dream Weapons present: DEEP INSIDE A DREAM C90

We're falling down the rabbit hole. Transporting you into a wonderfully (and troublingly) surreal state. Sweet dreams gently interrupted by waves of unease. Like an adventure taking place inside of your subconscious. Or like someone is trying to tell you a half-remembered tale. A «can’t put my finger on it» sort of vague concept for a trip through the motions. Sounds fun doesn’t it? -Moahaha

Dream Weapons present: MACHINERY C60

Finally, a new mix! So while awaiting our great 200th mixtape-collab Drain Crystals 3 to materialize, I decideded to skip straight to number 201. Dream Weapons present: THE OLD WAVE C60

The Old Wave is really just a bunch of tunes from the early to mid-eighties, that's either been with me forever, or I’ve stumbled over in various places around the internet. If not that old, New Wave is at least middle aged by now (yet for some reason "The Middle Aged Wave" didn't feel right). But it holds up well and still sound as fresh as ever. More so than the music from the second part of the same decade. It was an uniquely vibrant period for «popular music». I’ve simply collected nineteen standout gems (at least I think so) from this era that has gone under most everyone’s radar. Yes I know, The Comsat Angels and Lene Lovich are relatively well known, but the single/EP flipsides included here aren't. Chilling and doom-laden in a sort of cold war angsty way + plenty of fun -Moahaha

(self)promotion: Eulipion Corps - Return To Friendly Islands (Wormhole World, 2023)

The image over here is my third cover for yet another album by my hyperproductive friend Julian and his project Eulipion Corps. The cover and the title combined is as good indication as any in regards to what Return To Friendly Islands sounds like. Similar to the two previous albums shared here, but more aquatic, friendlier and more islandish. Check it out! For Bandcamp-link press cover, title or...

Dream Weapons present: SORCERER C60

Soft focus aside, here at Dream Weapons we love the strange and eerie just as much. Sometimes even more. A mysterious and seductive kind of strange filled with beauty and suspense that is. The music presented on Sorcerer isn’t really as far out as that crazy-ass shaman featured on the cover suggests. I simply had to make use that one-of-a-kind-painting at some point. I'm trying to recapture the feel and mode of a hauntingly surreal ghost story that I only vaguely remember. Or maybe it actually happened. I'm not certain -Moahaha

1 Osiris - Fioretti
2 The Ilk - Cosmic Revenge
3 Bruno Battisti D'Amario - Invocazione

I don't know how well I succeeded but my intention was for the cover art to resemble my favorite Cosmic Jokers, Harmonia and Cluster-albums. I've compiled a sort of «Fahren, fahren, fahren auf der Milchstraße» mix of kosmische unterhaltung. Electronic music, but in a warm and playful way. For the most part -Moahaha

(self)promotion: Eulipion Corps - Rites & Mysteries (Wormhole World, 2022)

Yes, I've made the cover art for a second Eulipion Corps album. After compiling 150 mixtapes I'm incapable of creating designs for the traditional CD/LP square (I tried both times:). But Julian doesn't seem to mind adopting "our signature look".

I've featured his music on two previous mixes: The Quiet Earth and It Was a Very Good Lightyear. So I'd say there's a fair chance you'll enjoy this if you enjoyed those - and of course if you liked Eulipion Corps (or "our") previous album Aenean Fields.

It's either free to listen to at Bandcamp, or £2.50 to buy the digital version (the CD is unfortunatly already sold out), so if you're curious, there's really no reason not to give it a try. I think it's beautiful. -Moahaha

Dream Weapons present: THE QUIET EARTH C60

While waiting for a fun and lively radio special to broadcast, I decided to share this failed attempt on compiling an hour of «pleasant background music». I guess that’s outside my field of expertise. But it's still a nice mix! All very quiet and non-intrusive, but in a blue and melancholic way. Not as dark as the cover art suggests, but it would probably make for a beautiful soundtrack to a classy horror movie -Moahaha

Dream Weapons present: WAVEFORMS C60

Mostly mildly pulsating Kosmische / Berlin School (inspired) electronic music. I think of night drives, wet asphalt, gas stations and neon lights. But it’ll probably sound nice for a trip to the countryside as well. Or into space. Or at home… I don’t know about you, but how I experience music changes with my surroundings anyway. Just listen to it whenever or wherever you feel like it.

-I don’t even have a drivers license. Nor do I own a car. But if I did I know I would drive around for hours for no other purpose than listening to music -Moahaha

(self)promotion: Eulipion Corps - Aenean Fields (Wormhole World, 2022)

Eulipion Corps is Julian Goldberger on guitar, synths, electric piano, vintage drum machines, field recordings, and various other sound making devices.

I, or Moahaha made the album cover! Julian first contacted Dream Weapons as a blog visitor who liked our mixes, and over the last year or so, we've gotten to know each other a little bit. I also checked out his own, self released music, enjoyed what I heard - and ended up including one of the tracks "The Long Goodbye" on It Was a Very Good Lightyear. Sometime in late 2021 he started to work with the UK based label Wormhole World, and asked me if I was interested in designing the artwork for his fourthcoming album. I told him I was just a happy amateur, but that's seemingly what he wanted:). At first I tried to work with the traditional shape of a square image. But nothing felt right until I went about it as if I was compiling another mixtape. As you can see it ended up having a distinct DWp-signature look.

So what does this sound like? The visuals will hopefully give you an indication but I find it comparable to the sort of electronic music in combination with warm acoustic parts - as featurered on the aforementioned mix + Innerouterspace, On Ice, Tveklang, Return to TRAPPIST-1 etc. I mean it's not the exact same of course, but if you enjoy the music featured on those, there's a great chance you (like me) will dig this. Click on the front & back cover art for links to Bandcamp and Spotify, or start by checking out Aenean Fields opening epic underneath -  and take it from there -Moahaha

...for the back I actually reused the It Was a Very Good Lightyear-image. There's such an undeniable fit for the musical contents of the album, I simply had to.

...and BTW, most of our 20ft shows + the two we've done for Radio Alhara are up on Soundcloud and collected HERE - if anyone of you prefers that platform - or have an account there. I might as well add that player too:
