Dream Weapons present: SIGHTING C90

Hello everyone! I’ve been so busy - and haven’t really the time for music nerding during the latter half of 2025. I’m afraid it’s not over yet. But I finished this mix a while ago. It’s basically all new and Ambient Music - sounding somewhere in between Berlin School and electronic movie scores. I think Sighting would work perfectly to some modern extra terrestrial mystery flick - or series. Like if Tales From the Loop was as great as it should have been. I have listened through several hundred albums within this sonic landscapes throughout the year, and these 20 tracks are among the ones that spoke strongly to both my heart and mind. Speaking of the mind: if yours is open, I’ll think you’ll discover much beauty here -Moahaha

-Many of you might prefer me in my usual «obscure gems from the past» mode, and I’m sure I’ll get back to that. But I’m afraid I won’t have much of that to offer in the nest couple of months. What can I say… life takes its twists and turns every once in a while. I probably won't have the time to make a Xmas Delight-mix this year either. Sorry.

The Flying Zoo & Dream Weapons present: GATTO NERO DI NOTTE C90

It’s my great honor and pleasure to introduce Crazy Monkey - who runs two excellent music blogs: The Flying Zoo and Distorted Cortex - with this, our first (but not the last) collaboration together. As I had learned about his current musical passions, I suggested we compiled a Library-mix together. It made for a perfect starting point that got even better when we allowed ourselves a more inclusive approach. The end result is the best imagined Giallo/Horror soundtrack ever made! Beauty and grooves that glow in the dark.

-Welcome to these almost forgotten worlds of mystery and suspense where you can explore the secret passages that lead to the unknown, walking the fine line that separates life from transmutation. Dream Weapons present: NOTHING TO FEAR C60

… but fear itself. But apart from the title, Nothing to Fear isn’t inspired by this famous quote from Franklin D. Roosevelt's first inauguration speech. I undertook the task of compiling an hour of tunes that could resemble a collection of horror/giallo score music - while using tracks that aren’t from such films. In fact only two of the songs are lifted from a soundtrack at all.

The eerie beauty of themes composed for vintage horror movies has always held a special place in my music loving heart. While taken out of their visual context, the melodies tend to radiate dreamy melancholy and sadness, rather than something truly sinister. Contemporary scores rarely give me anything, but music seemingly inspired by the aforementioned «golden age» is still being made. So the lion’s share of bands and artists featured, are actually from today’s era.

In a nutshell, my Halloween-mix comes a little early this year -Moahaha

Dream Weapons present: ILHA FORMOSA C60

Ilha Formosa means Beautiful Island. Portuguese sailors gave the island now known as Taiwan its former name in 1542. Formosa was actually the commonly used name for Taiwan up until the 1960-1970’s. Anyway here’s a collection of female singers and male instrumentalists - all originating from this beautiful island. At least according to my information. My selection contains music spanning over 15 years, from 1968 to 1983. I recognize plenty of both Chinese and Japanese material and influences. Some (or quite a few) of these melodies are based on well known South East Asian traditional songs, but presented with an «updated» westernized approach. Which was typical for this era of Asian popular music practically everywhere, except for in North Korea. This hour of 21 tunes still feature a few peculiar surprises. For instance Taiwan had their own «moogsploitation»-like scene named after Yamaha’s electronic organ series «Electone»*. A pretty amazing discovery for me personally. Full of life, lovely and charming. Enjoy! -Moahaha

*The song in the video underneath is a perfect example of that "scene"

Dream Weapons present: THE WELCOME PUNCH C60:

I threw a party for my birthday not long ago, and on the cover you can see me eagerly awaiting the arrival of my first guests. The idea was to compile music for that first hour at a party - or any kind of festive gathering. There’s a lot of considerations to be taken. It’s basically background music for conversing, but it needs to be fun and hold a semi-danceable beat - although no one’s gonna dance just yet. If you don’t have a party planned sometime in the near future, pour yourself a drink, play this  - and pretend. That’s the magic of music -Moahaha

-For the four of you that downloaded the mix shortly after I posted it: I had to take down and re-upload everything, as there was a strange "skip-issue" with song no. 4 (White Salt) - now replaced with Sahara

1 Franco Micalizzi - L'ultimo Cacciatore (Seq. 5)
2 Jef Gilson feat. Célia - Le Blanc Coton
3 Jackie DeShannon - Effervescent Blue

9 Retta Young & The Devotions - The Dawning of Love
10 Orkest Ruud Bos - Sexy Music

Dream Weapons present: SILENT AS THE GRAVE C60

What do you know it seems I had time for one more mix this month after all! While collecting songs for Sounds in the Night I sort of made an additional soundtrack-like mix without really noticing. These 23 tunes are selected from a long list of instrumentals that were too moody to fit in between the songs on my slightly more festive Halloween mix, posted earlier this month. Silent as the Grave is filled with the wonderfully eerie melodies that has made me fall in love with 1960-1980’s horror/giallo moviescores moreso than the actual horror/giallo movies of the era (sorry moviebuffs). To me music doesn’t get more beautiful than this. At least not right now while typing and listening through before posting  -Moahaha

Btw: Half the selection is actually Library/Production Music. And as long as the mood felt right, I haven’t taken into consideration what kind of movie genre the films these tracks were lifted from. But as you can see just by looking at the titles, they are primarily from the correct genres anyway.

1 Renato Anselmi - Oracolo
2 Enrico Simonetti - Arance Amare
3 Franco Piana - Magician
4 Nico Fidenco - The Dark Side of the Soul II
5 Alessandro Alessandroni - Ritratto
6 Achanthus - La Château
7 Gino Peguri - Odhilia
8 Pierre Porte - Theme 1
9 Giovanni Cristiani - The Blue Mountain
10 Brian Bennett - Blueprint for Murder
11 Lacerenza Michele - Fuga Notturna

12 Stelvio Cipriani - Mary's Theme
13 Manfred Hubler & Sigfried Schwab - Necronomania

15 Bruno Nicolai - Circle
16 Jean Bouchety - Pumping Heart I
17 Frank Reidy & Eric Allen - Distant Horizon
18 Oronzo De Filippi - Magia

Dream Weapons present: SOUNDS IN THE NIGHT C60

Well hello darkness, my old friend. A spooky All Hallow’s Eve-mix that doesn’t set out to actually scare you. Haunting in a comforting sort of way, and more like watching a vintage horror movie that’s not genuinely frightening to us anymore. Quite a few truly wonderful songs here. A little doom and gloom for the whole family to enjoy -Moahaha

Btw: This mix will have to do for all of October, I’m afraid. There will just be a lot of stuff going on in my life in the next couple of weeks and months. Mostly good stuff though:)

Dream Weapons present: 2x45 MINUTES OF MUSIC BY STELVIO CIPRIANI (C90)

Originally compiled eleven years ago. It's a little cleaned up, but 95% identical. Here's most of what I wrote in 2012:

Whenever Stelvio; the hippest cat of all the italian soundtrack composers really nailed it, his approach fits my tastes just perfectly. Lots of heavy percussion and strings, seriously groovin' cembaloriffs,  deep dark moog, lovable melodies and tons of suspense... The music is selected from 26 different albums out of the 35-36 I got. Track no. 10 is composed by Cipriani and recorded by Goblin. Track 14 and 15 are taken from Library albums, the forner of the two by Stelvio's own band: Blue Sharks -Moahaha

The correct 2023 tracklist. Too lazy to include movie titles:

1 Marsa Matruh, 1970
2 Incontro Con Marlene (Versione 3), 1970

Dream Weapons present: THE HOT SPACE C60

The concept of space in music is often associated with cold and desolate electronic soundscapes. However The Hot Space calls for far jazzier vibes. More specifically a 1970’s jazzgroove that's electrified with Moogs & stuff. By now you know I love this kind of stuff, and I will never grow tired of discovering yet another unheard gem from that time period. It feels like home somehow. La Vittima is lifted from an Italian giallo and Earl is from a Blaxploitation movie (plus a Library Music trio of tunes) - and I think the remaining tracks would have worked just as well in some movie really -Moahaha

1 Enrico Intra - Preludio in Re min. ("Stoccarda" Caduta di Varsavia)
2 The Equatics - Santana Part I
3 Arakawa Yasuo & Shiji Shiroo - Sudden Rain In Kyo
4 Luther Lane - Gorilla My Dreams

11 Bobbye Hall - Voyeur
12 Stomu Yamashta - Ishi
13 Alan Hawkshaw - The Speed Of Sound
14 Group Meeting - Loose
15 Band X - Red Cloud
16 Lesiman - Derivazione

Dream Weapons present: SORCERER C60

Soft focus aside, here at Dream Weapons we love the strange and eerie just as much. Sometimes even more. A mysterious and seductive kind of strange filled with beauty and suspense that is. The music presented on Sorcerer isn’t really as far out as that crazy-ass shaman featured on the cover suggests. I simply had to make use that one-of-a-kind-painting at some point. I'm trying to recapture the feel and mode of a hauntingly surreal ghost story that I only vaguely remember. Or maybe it actually happened. I'm not certain -Moahaha

1 Osiris - Fioretti
2 The Ilk - Cosmic Revenge
3 Bruno Battisti D'Amario - Invocazione
4 Alex Serra - Suez
5 The Braen's Machine - Murder
6 Vedurlög - Regn
7 James Clarke - Empty Streets

8 Tullio De Piscopo - 'O Miracolo Adda' Veni'
9 Li Zhih-Kung - A Music Stretch on Plum Flowers
10 Kenyon Hopkins - Chamber of Horrors
11 Orkiestra Ósmego Dnia - Brzeg
12 Carlos Ferreira - Childhood's End
13 Nash the Slash - Lost Lenore
14 Lydia Kavina / Elizabeth Parcells - In Whims of the Wind (edit)
15 Sandro Brugnolini - Under Funeral

Dream Weapons present: BITE THE DUST C60

I was sick for about half of March, and in that period I’ve almost finished eight mixtapes (including Mothers & Daughters and The Shrine). So that’s the reason why I’ve been on a roll here lately.

-Anyway I wanted to collect some songs for you that grooves really deep and hard. The cover kind of look a like a silly disaster movie poster or something like that, doesn’t it? Bite the Dust does have a soundtrack-feel, but perhaps in a more biker movie way. Mainly just tons of left field semi-psychedelic bops and bangers - that sometimes even rocks! A fun and entertaining mix I think. Like Cosmic Carpet Ride or The Wild Ones on steroids -Moahaha

Brw: I noticed I've titled this mix (Bite the Dust) in the "album artist" section and not "album". Hopefully you can easily add the title in the correct place yourself.

1 Czerwone Gitary - Coda
2 Ravi Harris and The Prophets - Thunderbird
3 Eddie the Sheik Kochak - Phaedra Pharonica
4 Hal Blaine & The Young Cougars - The Phantom Driver
5 Franz Auffray - Salted Popcorn
6 Takeshi Terauchi & Blue Jeans - Yakkosan
7 Baris Manco - Anadolu
8 Think - California (Is Getting So Heavy)
9 Bill Plummer and the Cosmic Brotherhood - Yentra II
10 Jacky Chalard - L'Agonie

Dream Weapons present: CANDLE-LIGHTIN' TIME C60

Hey! I used an old playlist full of beautiful, melancholic jazz and some soundtrack-like tunes to compile this one for you. I've never made coverart and compiled a C60 in one short afternoon before (I kept the title of the book, so that saved me hours of work - and thinking). While this is obviously meant to be a pleasant listen, it's still emotional and deep stuff. It's the sort of music I reach for to warm my soul on cold winter days. I'm sure it'll warm you up as well -Moahaha

I was curious to try out Logamp as a free alternative to Mixcloud but now it's been down for weeks, and doesn't look very promising anymore. So I'm checking out this Audius-thing. Let me know if it works for you (or rather if it doesn't). At least it appears to be a lot more popular.

Dream Weapons present: EASTERN EMBROIDERIES & MURDEROUS GROOVES C90X2 (reworkings)

-I revisit all our old C90’s while making streams to upload for Radio AlHara. However these two mixtapes compiled in spring 2016, were originially C120’s(!). Not long after I posted them I’ve thought them both to be overlong and hard to sit through. You know, a little bloated. Our ninety minute radio slot twice a month was a perfect excuse to trim them down to three-fourths of its original size (plus improve on the flow, the sound and the cover art). To me they feel brand new and I finally enjoy them from start to finish. Well here they are (again):

Here

Ever since my childhood I've had an affinity for a certain timbre that could mainly be found in the music from behind the Iron Curtain and in the regions of the former Sovietunion. Wether it’s armenian tetrachords, persian shashmaqam-modes from the central asian regions, klezmer, balkan or gypsy tunes... melancholic,  joyous (or both simultaniously) - it always seem to go straight to my heart -Moahaha

Jazz can be and mean a great many different things - spiritual, intellectual, political, relaxing, painful... you name it. Its also potentially full of suspense, tension, action and horror which is why jazz has been used to a great extent in film noir, thrillers, crime, giallo, cop-movies to name a few genres. I don't know why film-makers abandoned the perfect soundpalette to go along with moving images in favour of pompous orchestral scores and seemingly random pop-songs, but I know that they shouldn't have.

There's much greatness hidden in mostly obscure soundtracks and even more obscure production/library records - and from countless hours of excellence I've compiled 90 minutes of tunes in all kinds of moods, approaches and genres really, but still pretty much jazz in one way or another -Moahaha

1 Raymond Le Sénéchal – Generique

Dream Weapons present: INDOOR GAMES C90

Late last August I compiled a folk-mix sort of tributing the coming of autumn in all its glory*. This year’s autumnal mix however, is for the great indoors. Contemplative, (but not meditative), gently strange songs and instrumentals for book reading, board games, playing cards, knitting, drinking tea or wine, making soup, staring out the window… or whatever you feel like like doing when days get colder and shorter. This time I actually made the cover art first, and then I started collecting music I enjoy that I associated with the visuals in one way or another -Moahaha

Dream Weapons present: THE QUIET EARTH C60

While waiting for a fun and lively radio special to broadcast, I decided to share this failed attempt on compiling an hour of «pleasant background music». I guess that’s outside my field of expertise. But it's still a nice mix! All very quiet and non-intrusive, but in a blue and melancholic way. Not as dark as the cover art suggests, but it would probably make for a beautiful soundtrack to a classy horror movie -Moahaha

Dream Weapons present: THERE IS DEATH IN THE POT C90 (2011)

If some of you «regulars» have stumbled over any of my pre-DWp mixtapes, its bound to be either my first mix ever (titled Dark Sweets) or this one. My second and final C90 shared at a mythical place in cyberspace that existed in the great era of Mp3’s. Yes, before streaming, Spotify, Tidal etc… there was सølγ שаябlɛş. Well, at least it meant a lot to many of us music nutters back in the days.
-A first out of many self portraits done with music made by others. After listening to these ninety minutes of music, you’ll know me better than you would after having actually spent an hour and a half with me. This was what I wrote when There is Death in the Pot was originally shared back in 2011:

I have these childhood memories of watching films or whatever on TV, when I was too young to understand the essence of what was actually going and why. I still carry the strong emotional impact these experiences had on little innocent me. They’ve shaped my preferences and psyche just as much as things that happened in real life.

So I wanted to recreate a kind of fictional or impressionistic version of eras past. A mixed up adventure of castles, exotic travels, strange languages (Even english was a foreign language. It still is) and bygone cultures, dark forests, beautiful maidens, horses, warriors, pilgrims, drunks, impressive sideburns and death. Add all the confusing grown up stuff such as forbidden love, hate, sex, evil, perversions and funerals. Hundreds or maybe thousands of artificial memories melted into one pot -Moahaha
