Dream Weapons present: DAYS & NIGHTS IN THE GHETTO C90

I(’m an amateur) DJ every once in a while. And lately I’ve been doing these more or less monthly vintage Soul nights. Focusing on that glorious late 60’s - early 70’s era when sweet Soul Music got progressive and fused itself with Psychedelic Rock, Jazz, Funk, African music and whatnot… Often with orchestral arrangements, ethnic percussion and various keyboards. But never forgetting to groove. I love it, and so it seems, does the people attending.

Needless to say there’s A LOT of practically unheard gems waiting to be discovered. These are all some of my recently discovered, favorite obscurities. About 3/4th of this selection have already been - or will be played at my own club nights. This means no balladeering, and that you can pretty much dance your way though the whole mix. If you feel like it. I was thinking that the days in the ghetto reflects the songs of struggle, while the night-time is playtime. This should be a fun ride for you all. Enjoy! -Moahaha

-This mix/compilation wouldn't have been half as great if it wasn't for the AMAZING FunkMySoul website. If you enjoy this, you should most definitely check out their shares - and spend some time over there.

Dream Weapons present: CITY LIGHTS C90

For as long as I can recall I’ve loved those gorgeous string arrangements, the lighthearted playful sensuality, the synths and the grooves of Disco. Yet I never felt like had the overview or knowledge to compile a mix. But now I went along and did it anyway. During the years these 19 tracks were recorded: from 1975 to 1982: Disco was a global phenomena. So there’s literally a whole world of largely unheard gems out there to discover. Locating different takes from different scenes is most definitely part of the charm. Some funky, jazzy and organic takes, while others goes hard on the synths and drum machines. But always peppy, fun and... life-affirming -Moahaha

1 İstanbul Şarkıcıları - Yanmışım
2 Lynsey de Paul - Love Bomb
3 Alain Leroux & Christer Norden - Feeling Really Groovy

The image used for the cover art, and at least 1/3 of these tunes were original rips located at the unique and wonderful Melodiesmagic-blog. They make their own compilations too (which I should really check out myself:)

Dream Weapons present: BITE THE DUST C60

I was sick for about half of March, and in that period I’ve almost finished eight mixtapes (including Mothers & Daughters and The Shrine). So that’s the reason why I’ve been on a roll here lately.

-Anyway I wanted to collect some songs for you that grooves really deep and hard. The cover kind of look a like a silly disaster movie poster or something like that, doesn’t it? Bite the Dust does have a soundtrack-feel, but perhaps in a more biker movie way. Mainly just tons of left field semi-psychedelic bops and bangers - that sometimes even rocks! A fun and entertaining mix I think. Like Cosmic Carpet Ride or The Wild Ones on steroids -Moahaha

Brw: I noticed I've titled this mix (Bite the Dust) in the "album artist" section and not "album". Hopefully you can easily add the title in the correct place yourself.

Dream Weapons present: SOULSIDE JOURNEY C60

You may not be able to tell from my shares, but I love the hell out of 60-70’s funky soul music and listen to it all the time. It still feels somewhat a little outside my «field of expertise» (whatever that may be), so I guess I’ve l haven’t had a full mix in me until now. Well, actually I posted a Soulside Journey C90 ten years ago which is probably my least interesting mix ever. This has the same title but the cover and all the songs are new. I think by now I’ve fallen into enough rabbit holes full o' soul to compile an hour of non-stop bangers for you. Ok, maybe not all bangers, but all great -Moahaha

Dream Weapons present: THE WILD ONES C60

This time I wanted to compile the ultimate soundtrack for a non-existing B-movie. Let's say its an unnecessarily violent, mildly entertaining Bonnie & Clydeish cash-in flick with a killer score and a moderately large cult following. Something like that.

-Gorgeous themes, groovin’ tunes, hip chansons, soul bangers, occult psych, far out exotica… its got a little bit of everything. And the action seemingly takes place on several continents. Yeah this one was mostly put together to entertain myself - and you. It almost qualifies as a "party mix" -Moahaha

1 Codreanu Maria Petrovna/ Мария Кодриану - У одиноких тополей
2 Aut'Chose - Une Saison En Enfer
3 Thomas Elerth - Beatin’ It
4 A Gethsémani - Primavera Cha Cha

Dream Weapons Present: MURDEROUS GROOVES c120

In 2022 I reworked both of my early C120's, and removed thirty minutes of music from each. Making them an easier digestable - and just a better listening experience. Better sounding, better flow, better cover art and not too overlong... So I suggest you click on the link/cover underneath and check out that one instead:

-but you may disagree and the original is actually one of our most popular mixes ever, so the original is still available:

Jazz can be and mean a great many different things - spiritual, intellectual, political, relaxing, painful... you name it. Its also potentially full of suspense, tension, action and horror which is why jazz has been used to a great extent in film noir, thrillers, crime, giallo, cop-movies to name a few genres. I don't know why film-makers abandoned the perfect soundpalette to go along with moving images in favour of pompous orchestral scores and seemingly random pop-songs, but I know that they shouldn't have.

There's much greatness hidden in mostly obscure soundtracks and even more obscure production/library records - and from countless hours of excellence I've compiled 2x60 minutes of tunes in all kinds of moods, approaches and genres really, but still pretty much jazz in one way or another.
