Dream Weapons present: XMAS DELIGHTS VOL. V (+ I, II, III, IV) C60

or

My favorite Christmas tunes reminds why as a child the Yuletide used to be my favorite time of the year. An idealized daydream of what the festive season should be - or once was.

"The only listenable Christmas compilation…ever!" I half-jokingly added to my first volume in this series - cowardly washing my hands from responsibility while claiming my innocence (or wait that’s easter) for its questionable content. But four xmas-compilations later; it has grown to become my no. 1 genre of music! No not really - its not even a genre. But the best discoveries are usually either oldies, jazz, latin, folk/medieval or classically oriented - sometimes combined. And I love all of that.

So a Merry Christmas to you all and I hope you enjoy our antimaterialistic gift of music!

I - IV REUPLOADED!

We decided I’d might as well make a grand Xmas Delights Vol. I-V bonanza for our blog-visitors. A carefully designed and finely selected six hours of music in total to get you and your beloved ones through the holidays in one piece!

- In 2015 I shaped the cover art in a 1970’s christmas card kind of style (or rather stole Ivo Caprino’s and added my own title). One for the sophisticated listener. A purely european, traditional folk/semiclassical mix. Looks joyful and childish on surface but contains about 3/4 pure melancholic beauty and only 1/4 of festive joy.

- A little all over the place - mostly fun and filled with forgotten treasures. 100% vintage coziness and nostalgia-vibes guaranteed.

- Unquestionably my all-time sloppiest cover design job... ever. Imaging two young women dressed as babies for christmas presents. Hm - but the actual songs collected are as great as-or better than ever.

- The original and first. Back then I was yet to become this genre’s connoisseur par excellence* and the beginning of the pentalogy is naturally the closest to resemble a regular collection of christmas-tunes. Containing quite a few household names and a number of actual hits. Just the good stuff though.

Dream Weapons present: EPISODES OF INSECT LIFE C90 - an NTS radio special.

A collaboration for NTS radio containing nine songs from Sadhu Sadhu (who also compiled this mix), Prabha Devi and Moahaha each. Its really Dream Weapons Present: Dream Weapons Present - but I kept the strangely apt title of the L.M Budgen-book I reworked for our cover art instead. «He filled their listening ears with wondrous things» is its subtitle - and what we aim for.

You are cordially invited to a feast for ears and feet alike - atleast compared to most of my other mixes.

Don’t know if US voters went for the warmonger or fascist-alternative just yet, but either way wintertime is most certainly here. I just learned that the first statement of the 2nd law of thermodynamics is that "heat flows spontaneously from a hot to a cold body". Unintentionally erotic-sounding laws of thermodynamics sort of sums up my primary intentions with this mix - cuz that’s what the world needs. Now get ready for one last dance around the globe.

Dream Weapons recommends: ETHERIC FOUNTAIN CHANNEL

My dear friend Tsaheylu Silene Bathyketes, has released a new album! Check it out!

- Sadhu Sadhu

NEW TAPE from ETHERIC FOUNTAIN CHANNEL on SUNROAD RECORDS(Norway) c90 limited to 100ex

A mix of newage music, loops, noises and fieldrecordings/naturesounds. The self-titeled tape from etheric fountain channel stretches over 90 minutes and has floating transitions between the songs, blurring the compositions as parts to its whole, adding a overall feeling or color despite its wide range of expressions. its a fairytale journey through undiscovered landscapes. From digging through ditches as a hedgehog to witnessing futuristic monoliths being erected from an eagle's eye. It takes you walking by a lake in thick fog, hearing portals opening and closing through the echoing waves. The music is almost entirely made of acoustic instruments and field recordings, except some keyboardnotes in there that stick out as kind of obvious. It's got dimensions of depth you don't discover in it's ocean of sound on the first listening, though it's manageable. If you work at sorting out its layers and textures -you can hope to reveal new forms of meditation and or worship. The tape is a inspired incarnated image of the dancing elementals on the threshold of our senses. A pure communication in the form of musical memory.

Dream Weapons present: THE HEARING FOREST AND THE SEEING FIELD C90

or

Traditional-to psychedelic folk-favorites of a gentle, mysterious beauty long lost. Twenty songs and a few instrumental interludes all recorded sometime in between the mid-60’s up to early 80’s, that may lull you into a longing for olden times - centuries before you were born.

Times that… must have been total shit if you weren’t royalty or filthy rich. And anyone that lucky were most likely some sort of tyrant. BUT let’s not dwell on short and miserable lives once lived.

I'm afraid I seem to have strayed somewhat from my original brief. But in a nutshell: art is more fun than reality. Enjoy!

3. Robin Williamson - For Three of Us

- This mix has taken its title from the Hieronymus Bosch-drawing (detail) used on the cover. Look closely and you’ll notice that the forest literally has ears, and the field eyes. - Moahaha

Dream Weapons present: SPIRITS UNKNOWN C90

https://yadi.sk/d/UzuEFn4Uvmjv7

Mainly spiritual jazz - including some spirited latin and oriental fusions. Or just some jazz gems I enjoy. I also dug up some of my favorite jazz poetry tunes (all with musical accompany) and placed them in between. I like how these spoken grooves about biblical texts, New York City, STD’s, life memories, prostitution, apocalyptic visions and the blues influences and comments its musical surroundings. This mix probably seem less random than it is because of it. And in a good way, I think. - Moahaha

Dream Weapons present: GHOSTIN THROUGH NEITHERLANDS C90

or

Not sure this title sits well with any native speaker of english but it makes sense to me. A ghost story of the sort that might have given you a good scare as a child, but maybe not so much if revisited as a grown up. It won't give you nightmares anymore but the dense, haunting atmosphere is still present. Childhood memories both from experience and fiction when magic and the supernatural felt just as real as reality.

Dream Weapons present: SOUNDSTORMS C90

or

Although you can't tell by listening to my mixtapes shared here so far, I've always loved heavy, hypnotic riffs and pounding percussion - but it seems every kraut-or spacerock obscurity of the golden era is already dug up, ressurected and compiled to death. Which is why it was more inspirational to present some fuzzed & far out cosmic rock from the last couple of decades instead. A lot more fun for you and me both. Sixteen more or less contemporary bands mostly (but not all) sounding much like they're some long lost and overlooked 70's discovery - but why hold that against them as long as the ideas and tunes are groovy and fresh?

-Moahaha

1. Polska Radio One - Последняя Мантра
2. Squadra Omega - The Mystery of the Deep Blue Sea

Dream Weapons present: DISTANT DRUMS C90

or

I originally shared an almost identical version of this last summer, but guessing its new to most visitors here.

Distant Drums is my attempt at compiling an exotica or rather just an exotic-sounding mix - or maybe a few tunes here simply remind me of the sun and the ocean. Anyway I decided not to allow myself to include any of the usual suspects - and leaving out any favorites discovered on Flash Straps (highly recommended blog!) many rips and mixes. I almost succeeded on both accounts. I've loved the sound of this criminally underrated genre ever since I got Martin Denny's A Taste of Honey for free at a flea market a little over 20 years ago (hardly exotica and far from being among his best, but it did the trick). So here's a light, gentle and deliciously inauthentic 90-minute tour around everywhere in the world westerners consider east or south.

Dream Weapons present: DEAD BUT DREAMING C90

or

Its only occasionally as gloomy as the title and cover suggests. I just like the sound and looks of it.

-Picture yourself floating in some sort of limbo whilst semi-consciously drifting in and out of dreams. Some of them pleasant and beautiful while others eerie and dark but every time you you're about to grasp what its all about, the scenery changes. Perhaps forces of good and evil are fighting for your soul to keep. I don't know I've never been dead – and I don't have a soul. Far out! - but almost gentle enough to qualify as a relaxation tape.

Do yourself a favour and listen all the way through or else you'll miss out on Mal Waldron's stunning farewell.

Dream Weapons present: PÉROLAS BARROCAS C90

or

And now for something completely different, its: The Best Baroque Mixtape In The World...Ever!*

Pérola Barrocas means irregular pearls – which is the original meaning behind the term Baroque. I skipped the obvious genius of the era Bach (+ Handel...and Purcell), focusing rather heavily on the «early music» sounds of the harpsichord, harp, strings, gloomy organ and quite a lot of viola da gamba-drones. Some songs and dances, a few furiously dynamic orchestral assaults but the allegros are largely outnumbered by the adagios.

Dream Weapons present: PSYCHOMAGIK C60

Psychomagik is a compilation of songs from various walks of life. Intended as nothing more than auditory pleasure and a travelogue around the world taking in the sights and sounds of elusive caves and temples. It's not dark as much as an uplifting melancholy which fits nicely under the umbrella of the occult or the hidden. A paradise of hidden delights.

Dream Weapons present: CULT WORSHIP SONGS C60

"The latest mix from Prabha Devi is a slower, more introverted mix. A collection of songs you can enjoy in private meditation but not really suited for being the soundtrack of a party unless its a valium or LSD affair. It's listening music for the loner, tonic for the vagabond, or companion songs for those on long train rides. Imagine sitting in a field with Ye-Ho-Wah disciples running around in white garments in the sunlight. This would be the soundtrack"

Dream Weapons present: ORIENT-TNEIRO c90

West mirroring east - east mirroring west - with musical influences going back and fourth featuring artist from both «worlds». There's an oriental jazz-vibe throughout but I've included everything from psychedelic ragarock-fusion or whatever-to slow 'n sensuous bellydance grooves. Unlike an Exotica-album your inner imagined landscapes won't be of the sea or the jungle, but the desert and the savannah.

Dream Weapons present: KASBAH GHOSTS c60

"Kasbah Ghosts is a slow-moving meditation that rises and falls like an inland lake, at times one for pondering, at times one for slipping into a cheery flashback of opiates or laudanum. From the slivers of electronica to the ranting of a madman it evokes a sense of yesteryear and hopefully will sooth the nausea of life. A dialect of grim worship!" -Prabha Devi

Dream Weapons present: THE EXECUTIONER'S SONG c90

...and the road leads to nowhereis the first line sung in «Blow Your Brains Out», the opening song. But after a handful of seductive folk/pop-tunes followed closely by various southeast-asian grooves and the likes, overlapped by some avant-weirdness & doom-laden baroque - this road has actually lead you to the guillotine (dripping with the memories of the people it had seen) of The Excecutioner's Song

I think of this mix like a road movie in music – a road-horror movie perhaps. Open, adventurous, dreamlike and surreal for the first parts of the trip but true to the genre it takes a darker turn and ends in (bloody) tragedy.

Dream Weapons Present: FUTURA PRIMITIVA c90

I thought this would end up as the less pretentious pulp-version of Antropocen (a former mix of mine). But aside from the coverart and my approach to writing this text, the actual music itself is most definitely in the same ballpark. These ninety minutes are equally packed with analogue electronics served on a bed of drum machines occasionally spiced up with a few minimalist tunes and soundscapes - among other things.

Dream Weapons Present: MURDEROUS GROOVES c120

Jazz can be and mean a great many different things - spiritual, intellectual, political, relaxing, painful... you name it. Its also potentially full of suspense, tension, action and horror which is why jazz has been used to a great extent in film noir, thrillers, crime, giallo, cop-movies to name a few genres. I don't know why film-makers abandoned the perfect soundpalette to go along with moving images in favour of pompous orchestral scores and seemingly random pop-songs, but I know that they shouldn't have.

There's much greatness hidden in mostly obscure soundtracks and even more obscure production/library records - and from countless hours of excellence I've compiled 2x60 minutes of tunes in all kinds of moods, approaches and genres really, but still pretty much jazz in one way or another.
