Dream Weapons present: STILLNESS IN MOVEMENT C90

With «Music for contemporary dance choreography» as the subheading. It felt more appropriate than the often used «music for an imaginary film»-variation. I just slapped it on for fun, but I actually watch a lot of contemporary dance/ballet. And I do think most of these 18 pieces included, would be perfect for performative dancing.

This is actually that darker sibling of «Walk with me in Beauty» I mentioned (in my previous post) I was working on. A different kind of beauty. I think it’s all quite stunning really. Modern Classical, Electronic, Ambient, Experimental (often combined), a little doom laden Folk + a slice of Gamelan Jazz(?) compositions - or musicians musicking. All taken from recent releases. Not at all unlike my approach to the present tense-mix shared earlier this year. Deeply in debt to newothermusic, I’ve been searching in these musical fields of late. When this new-other-music sneaks upon me, aims for the heart and hits - it’s truly an earth-shattering experience -Moahaha

Dream Weapons present: WALK WITH ME IN BEAUTY C90

I was compiling a similar, but darker mix and this one is mostly made out of the considered tracks that felt too outright beautiful to fit within that context. I’m not all that seasonal in my music listening habits. But it’s in the midst of summer here, so it felt appropriate to share the «nicest» among the two, first. Ninety minutes of wintery melancholy and longing instead of straight up gloom. Basically a collection that combines Modern Classical, Ethereal Folk with elements of Ambient/Electronic (perhaps bordering on New Age at times). 21 out of 24 tracks are taken from 2024-2025 releases, and the remaining three were released in 2022-2023. For some reason I find that somewhat pleasing in itself -Moahaha

1 Adrian Lane - Pigeon Angel
2 Annelies Monseré - Floods
3 Akira Umeda & Metal Prayers - Ice Maidens Myriad Dream
4 Grabek - The Awakening
5 Loopsel - Det vi inte får

Dream Weapons present: BREEZING UP C90

It’s just a lighthearted, summer mix for you all to enjoy in the warm breeze. Gorgeous songs and melodies that sometimes has a slight edge (like a guitarist using a fuzz pedal O:), but not enough to ruin the generally pleasant mood. Dream Weapons present: WHAT IN THE WORLD C90

UPDATE: I noticed I had two versions of the same song: Ali Beirut's Orientales - Chifti and used one on Age of Gold, and the other on this. So I uploaded an alternative / similiar song for you (with the same songlength). Just press download, prove that you're not a robot and replace Chifti with: Anastacios Smirniotis Orchestra - Zeus Nitsi (Sultan's Dream) (with edited/updated cover art attached to the songfile)

An Asian/African/Eastern European mixture of songs and tunes that I think complement each other. The main ingedient that somehow make it work, is always the folk element. Local traditions from around the world is the unifying theme. In times like these, isn’t that kind of nice to think about? And the actual music is all kinds of lovely as well -Moahaha

Added streaming option for Xmas Delights I-IV

Because why not? As they were all compiled before DWp existed, and before I knew about this streaming option thing, these have never been available as such. I had to upload III in mono, otherwise the file would have been too big. Over half the songs were in mono to begin with anyway. I much prefer mp3's of course, but I know at least some of you think streaming is more practical and handy. Enjoy! -Moahaha

Dream Weapons present: XMAS DELIGHTS XIII C60

Ernie says "Christmas season begins shortly after the end of the big meal on Thanksgiving. Be there or be square" - so I'll follow his lead. Although over here Thanksgiving was actually two months ago. I didn't even notice - or know. All "we" do is to decorate the altar with ribbons of corn and other crops from the fields, so I gladly discard our local traditions in favour of a little Americanization.

-Anyway I'm glad I'm not particularly superstitious, as it's time for my thirteenth collection of delights for the festive season! I always think my latest will be my last. But it's the same procedure as last year. Same procedure as every year. My seasonal compilations are always drenched in nostalgia. They aim at capturing the spirit of an idealized Christmas that only really exist in fiction. Or perhaps you recognize the feeling from looking at faded family photographs, alternatively a grainy video taken by your parents - while the younger you meet Santa, open a present... Or some other childhood highlight. Perhaps not. Either way, I once again present to you another variation of cozy oldies, lighthearted latin/easy listening gems and the likes, for the first half of my selection. Followed by heartwarming folksongs, and some classical/early music stunners on the less festive, but no less christmassy B-side of things -Moahaha

It may take a while till I return with another mix. So I might as well wish you a wonderful December - and I hope that 2025 will be a shockingly awesome year for all of you (and for me)!

1 Jack Conner - Angels We Have Heard On High
2 Martine Bijl - In Den Zomer Van Het Jaar Nul

5 Eduardo Zurita - Jaleo Navideño

Dream Weapons present: GOOD TIMES BAD TIMES C90

If this was a person, «A hot mess» would perfectly sum up these ninety minutes of music. It’s a fun and colorful collection of thirty songs. In that sense much like the misleading, but relatively fun and colorful cover art. Stylistically a little all over the place and geographically from all over the world. Plenty more good times than bad times, really. But in times like these, who wouldn’t welcome more of the former and less of the latter? Enjoy! -Moahaha

Like an adventure taking place inside of your subconscious. Or like someone is trying to tell you a half-remembered tale. Dream Weapons present: FLOWERS IN MY GARDEN C60

Flowers in My Garden features ethereal folk, folk rock and pop recorded sometime between 1968 to 1983. Some self released loner folk and demos to thorougly arranged and sophisticated studio recordings. But I think there’s a dense atmosphere and a haunting quality to everything here. Unheard or forgotten songs of a certain beauty forever lost. I wanted the cover art to match its mysterious and enchanting content, but I see now that it ended up resembling a cheap yellowback. I think the painting I used is very nice though:) -Moahaha

... and BTW: I’ve got a lot on my mind these days, and it may take a while till I post another mix.

1 Risken Finns - Til Weena

Dream Weapons present: HERDING CALLS C60

As promised in my previous post here's that Western European folk-mix of mine. Or rather the Nordic nations plus France, some Celtic songs, a Welsh tune and uh... an Irish music project from Sardinia. No 1970’s psychfolk this time, but more traditionally based. In all of my crate digging life I’ve flicked through countless Scandinavian folk albums with similar cover art to this one, in the cheap bins. As charming as they often appeared visually, I still never gave them the time of day. Well, not until in the last couple of years or so. About half of these represent some of the best tunes I’ve located on such albums - while the other half is found… elsewhere:) An hour full of life and wonderful melodies. Try it! -Moahaha

Dream Weapons present: FIRST THE DANCE, THEN THE FEAST C60

Another compilation of wondrous folk music from behind the former Iron Curtain. Not so much the festive fairy tale dance party the cover art and title suggests. There’s some of that as well. But heartfelt songs and achingly beautiful melodies for the most part. Which is what made me fall in love and obsess with folk music from all over the world in the first place -Moahaha

-Please forgive me if you’re among the... I don't know Billion people (probably more) who lives in one of these vastly different nations and cultures… often with little or nothing in common. It may appear as an inane concept for collecting an hour of music. But coming up with loose concepts and trying to make them work musically or sonically together, is what I do. Next up is folk from Western Europe, so at least I treat us all - myself included - with equal cultural ignorance:)

Dream Weapons present: WHEN BRIDDES SINGETH BREME C60

The title means «When birds sing gloriously» which again is taken from a British medieval song titled «Lenten ys come with loue to toune». Speaking of the Middle Ages, the musical content of «When briddes singeth breme» is so-called Early Music based on material dating back to the 13th up to the 15th century. In the olden days life was brutal and ugly, but miserable lives calls for art of otherworldly beauty. For most of you it will probably sound much like folk music. And that's because it essentially is folk music. With every tune included originating from the mainland of Europe, my «Ye Olde England»-like title ended up as somewhat misleading. That’s because I made the cover art at an early stage, and every jolly «Hey nonny, nonny»-ditty was removed underway. Which is probably all for the better -Moahaha

Btw: In my late teens/early 20’s I was a passionate Medieval and Renaissance music collector. I became quite the amateur/expert. At least I thought so myself. But I never really recovered after my whole record collection was stolen in a break in. Thinking about it still fills me with sadness. But time has healed the wounds enough for me to compile this for you. Anyway, to find out more about the music and it's origins in fuller detail, you will have to google search the ensembles and titles. I did not have it in me to include all of that this time around.

Dream Weapons present: XMAS DELIGHTS VOL XII C90

This year I present to you an almost chronologically correct festive feast for the ears. Kicking things off with a nine decade ol' Danish ditty, it’s all cozy shellac-era oldies on the first half of my selection. Just like you’ve probably grown accustomed to by now. But for the second half I've put together a hodgepodge of heartwarming folksongs, a few loungy jazz/easy listening gems and some classical/early music stunners (nothing new from me about that either, I suppose:). All in a delightfully christmassy mode. On my twelfth ever year of Xmas-mix making, there’s also a first ever version of 12th Day Of Christmas included. I always liked the melody, yet I never really located a version I thought did it justice. But I thoroughly enjoy Geoff Bastow's afterski in the coctail lounge take on it.

Yulephiles and yulephobics alike: I’m wishing you all the jolliest season ever! I think we deserve a good one -Moahaha

Dream Weapons present: BARE HANDS C60

Pretty, old, folk, songs. Autumnal music. There’s still wonderful folk music being made and released. But the sound and the lyricism of these songs presented here, feel like a thing of the past. Our voices seem to have lost its wide-eyed innocence on the way from then up till now. Understandable I suppose, but I wish it wasn’t so. Enough of that. Our garden abounds with fruit and vegetables, and we’ve gathered baskets full of mushrooms. Autumn is the season of beautiful colors and my favorite time of year! -Moahaha

Dream Weapons present: VOICES IN THE AIRWAVES C60

Much like the cover art suggests, these two ladies are tuning in from one radio station to the next. Both reception and sound is surprisingly good. And what they hear is a wondrous selection of Eastern European and South East Asian folk & pop songs. I might as well have titled it «Female Voices in the Airwaves». Apart from the seven matching instrumentals, that’s what it is. An hour full of life, beauty and sadness and joy. What more could you possibly ask for? -Moahaha

Dream Weapons present: NORTHERN SONGS C90

By "popular demand" I’ve flicked/improved upon and re-uploaded this ten year old C90 for you. I don't think there's been an active link for the old version in like seven or eight years. A handful of the artists selected are represented with a couple of tunes each, and a few ensembles/artists included are relatively profilic. It’s not how I would compile a mix in 2023. I do think it's pretty great for what it is though. Plus this version got three short, but sweet bonus songs. Here's what I wrote back in 2013:

Last part of the title is taken from Immigrant Song, as I grew up imagining Led Zep was singing about norwegians migrating to America. Turns out it was about Iceland but nevermind, it still fits.

My original idea was to make a «true» nordic folk collection with tunes and arrangements based on/or in direct contact with the old tradition. I ended up including some slightly rocked/jazzed up material but kept it mostly traditional with plenty of hardangerfiddle. No electro-or freakfolk to be found. Most of the edits I made are taken from medleys. Northern Songs should either make you want to dance or weep. Or dance and weep

Dream Weapons present: THE SHRINE C90

The Shrine was a fraternal publication distributed to members from 1926–1928. Freemasonry feel like a bizarre anachronism to me. Yet to me these nearly century old magazine-covers are timeless works of captivating beauty. And that’s why I reworked the very first Shrine publication for another intercontinental mix of shellac-era oldies. It’s intended to match the charm and mystique of its musical content - and vice versa -Moahaha

-I’ve made quite a few 78RPM-era collections by now. Just press the Oldies-tag and among a few exotica/xmas/easy listening/latin-mixes (containing both very old, and some slightly less old songs) you’ll find about a dozen C60/C90’s containing nothing but a century - up to six decade old music.

Dream Weapons present: MOTHERS & DAUGHTERS C60

What better day than March 8 to drop another female fronted, roundabout route kind of mixtape? Much like Exploradora, Woman of the World, Take Over!, Sing it, Sister (originally shared on IWD, 2020) and A Song in the Blood before - Mothers & Daughters initially started out with me collecting a bunch of songs I've discovered over the years - that I love. But as I have a slight preference for woman’s singing voices, compilations like these simply occurs. Fourteen enchanting and lovingly performed songs (plus six instrumentals) that should do good for both your mental and physical well being. Although musically a little all over the place, I think this hour flows along quite nicely -Moahaha
