Dream Weapons present: Xmas Delights XIV C60

-And I just wrote that I wouldn’t have time for compiling another Xmas Delights:). But I had all of these songs in a longer playlist titled «Christmas 2025», so in record time I compiled this from selecting 22 lovely tunes from those six hours. Once again it’s about 3/4 lighthearted oldies, and 1/4 folksy-early music.

With this, my fourteenth ever Xmas Delights, I wish you all a wonderful December - and an even better 2026! -Moahaha

STORA SKUGGAN & Dream Weapons present: FLYING EASTWARDS C90

Just like STORA SKUGGAN, the music collective Dream Weapons also prefer to lurk in fog and dark corners – perhaps it is the reason we found each other… With a vast archive of mixes - and even though we regularly play many of them - we fear only to have peeled the lid of this sonic treasure. Flying Eastwards C90 is in the selector Moahaha’s own words a “Far East fantasy. Ninety minutes of vintage gems from Japan, Indonesia, Singapore, South Korea, Taiwan and Hong Kong”. The lion's share of these compositions have never been rereleased in any shape or form since their first release in the 1960s/1970s (we are often marvelled by never recognising any of the productions in the Dream Weapons mixes). Serious knowledge and research is the core of their work. Immerse yourself in the dreamlike beauty and sweet sounds of Enka, Trot, Dangut, Mandopop and Electone - among other things.

A commissioned mixtape for STORA SKUGGAN this time. But I could make whatever kind of mix I felt like, so you won't tell the difference from a regular DWp-mix -Moahaha

Dream Weapons present: PERPETUAL VACATION C90

In essence an Exotica-mix, but that only makes up for about half of its musical content. Dream Weapons present: TWILIGHT IN JAZZVILLE C60

How I would have loved to wander the fictional streets of late 1950’s Jazzville after sunset. On a whim I’d walk into a hip little bar, or a stylish nightclub. While listening to the sound of chattering and clinking glass, a group of musicians enter the stage. The songstress and her small ensemble alternate between Torch Songs, understated Cool Jazz and assorted delights in that ballpark. The deep, slow and haunting Misty and ‘Round Midnight type of repertoire. Yet another obvious case of false nostalgia (see Anemoia), and as always before, music is to blame.

All the talent that has slipped through the cracks has always been Dream Weapons’ raison d'être. But it’s also a little saddening to think about. Maybe you know the names of a couple of the singers or bandleaders here, but they are mostly long forgotten and virtually unheard (Helen Merrill is an exception, but not this song). Yet to me the ten songs presented here are all perfect tens - and every tune sound like a classic -Moahaha

1 Fran Jeffries - Out of This World, 1960
2 Herb Geller - Silver Rain, 1954
3 Lynn Taylor - Wandering Heart, 1958
4 Bob Cooper - Sunset, 1955
5 Helen Merrill - It's A Lazy Afternoon, 1957
6 Metropolitan Jazz Quartet - Night Song, 1958
7 Lu Ann Simms - The End of the Line, 1952
8 Johnny Eaton - The Lamp is Low, 1957
9 Cora Lee Day - My Crying Hour, 1960

10 The Marty Paich Octet - Jacqueline, 1956
11 Debby Moore - Come On Home to Me, 1959
12 The Brothers Candoli - It Never Entered My Mind, 1957
13 Dorothy Dandridge - The Touch Of Your Lips, 1958
14 Jack Montrose With Bob Gordon - April's Fool, 1955
15 Donna Brooks - Full Moon and Empty Arms, 1956
16 Paul Quinichette - Tropical Intrigue, 1955

Dream Weapons present: AGE OF GOLD C60

Was the post-war era of 1950-1960 an age of gold - or a golden age? I don’t know, probably for those who were young back then. Youth is everyone's golden era, so I could have written exactly that about almost any period of time. But post-war is surely better than war. I stole the title from Bunuels surrealist movie L’Age d’Or (well, the english title), because it has this nice, nostalgic ring to it. By now it probably goes without saying that: here's another hour of intercontinental golden oldies! Guess I said it anyway. Nothing but highlights here! I think that every single time I share a mix though -Moahaha

1 Georges Jouvin Orchestra - Maruzella
2 The Tokyo Serenaders - Yuuraku Cho de Aimasho
3 The Four Knights - Walkin' and Whistlin' Blues
4 Alain Romans - Tango de thé Dansant

Added streaming option for Xmas Delights I-IV

Because why not? As they were all compiled before DWp existed, and before I knew about this streaming option thing, these have never been available as such. I had to upload III in mono, otherwise the file would have been too big. Over half the songs were in mono to begin with anyway. I much prefer mp3's of course, but I know at least some of you think streaming is more practical and handy. Enjoy! -Moahaha

Dream Weapons present: XMAS DELIGHTS XIII C60

Ernie says "Christmas season begins shortly after the end of the big meal on Thanksgiving. Be there or be square" - so I'll follow his lead. Although over here Thanksgiving was actually two months ago. I didn't even notice - or know. All "we" do is to decorate the altar with ribbons of corn and other crops from the fields, so I gladly discard our local traditions in favour of a little Americanization.

-Anyway I'm glad I'm not particularly superstitious, as it's time for my thirteenth collection of delights for the festive season! I always think my latest will be my last. But it's the same procedure as last year. Same procedure as every year. My seasonal compilations are always drenched in nostalgia. They aim at capturing the spirit of an idealized Christmas that only really exist in fiction. Or perhaps you recognize the feeling from looking at faded family photographs, alternatively a grainy video taken by your parents - while the younger you meet Santa, open a present... Or some other childhood highlight. Perhaps not. Either way, I once again present to you another variation of cozy oldies, lighthearted latin/easy listening gems and the likes, for the first half of my selection. Followed by heartwarming folksongs, and some classical/early music stunners on the less festive, but no less christmassy B-side of things -Moahaha

It may take a while till I return with another mix. So I might as well wish you a wonderful December - and I hope that 2025 will be a shockingly awesome year for all of you (and for me)!

1 Jack Conner - Angels We Have Heard On High
2 Martine Bijl - In Den Zomer Van Het Jaar Nul
3 Geoff Bastow - Yule Train
4 Harpers Bizarre - Snow
5 Eduardo Zurita - Jaleo Navideño
6 De Carina's - In een Slee
7 The Waikiki’s - Waikiki Christmas
8 Heaven & Earth - Home for Christmas
9 Yasunori Nakajima and The Latin Rhythm Kings - Blue Christmas
10 Paulette Rollin - La Symphonie De Noël
11 Roy Smeck and His Island Quartet - Rudolf the Red Nosed Reindeer
12 Len Ranle - Christmas Bells

13 Chickie Williams - Wintertime In Maine
14 Tracy Moore - Silent Night
15 Pete Seeger - Lo, How a Rose E'er Blooming
16 Ronnie Gilbert - Borning Day
17 Ethan James - Quem Pastores Lauduere / On Christmas Night

Dream Weapons present: XMAS DELIGHTS VOL XII C90

This year I present to you an almost chronologically correct festive feast for the ears. Kicking things off with a nine decade ol' Danish ditty, it’s all cozy shellac-era oldies on the first half of my selection. Just like you’ve probably grown accustomed to by now. But for the second half I've put together a hodgepodge of heartwarming folksongs, a few loungy jazz/easy listening gems and some classical/early music stunners (nothing new from me about that either, I suppose:). All in a delightfully christmassy mode. On my twelfth ever year of Xmas-mix making, there’s also a first ever version of 12th Day Of Christmas included. I always liked the melody, yet I never really located a version I thought did it justice. But I thoroughly enjoy Geoff Bastow's afterski in the coctail lounge take on it.

Dream Weapons present: SOUNDS IN THE NIGHT C60

Well hello darkness, my old friend. A spooky All Hallow’s Eve-mix that doesn’t set out to actually scare you. Haunting in a comforting sort of way, and more like watching a vintage horror movie that’s not genuinely frightening to us anymore. Quite a few truly wonderful songs here. A little doom and gloom for the whole family to enjoy -Moahaha

Btw: This mix will have to do for all of October, I’m afraid. There will just be a lot of stuff going on in my life in the next couple of weeks and months. Mostly good stuff though:)

Dream Weapons present: TILL THE END O' THE WORLD WITH YOU C60

Alternatively «dance till the end o’ the world with you». Another collection of both schmaltzy and gently romantic oldies. It’ll fill you (or me) with nostalgia, melancholy and the forbidden longing for those good ol’ postwar days of optimism, joy and innocence. Dream Weapons present: THE SHRINE C90

The Shrine was a fraternal publication distributed to members from 1926–1928. Freemasonry feel like a bizarre anachronism to me. Yet to me these nearly century old magazine-covers are timeless works of captivating beauty. And that’s why I reworked the very first Shrine publication for another intercontinental mix of shellac-era oldies. It’s intended to match the charm and mystique of its musical content - and vice versa -Moahaha

-I’ve made quite a few 78RPM-era collections by now. Just press the Oldies-tag and among a few exotica/xmas/easy listening/latin-mixes (containing both very old, and some slightly less old songs) you’ll find about a dozen C60/C90’s containing nothing but a century - up to six decade old music.

Xmas Delights XI, We're Out of Space and Port of Call

...Mixcloud has started charging money for uploading further streams, Mediafire is blocking quite a few of my files, pCloud limits all my files due to "high download traffic"... and they all want my money. But I'm not gonna spend money to share music for free. Looks like the universe is telling me to stop sharing mixtapes..................................  blah...

-If for nothing else but to make this post a little less boring, here's "an oldie" I compiled back in 2012, that's probably new to most of you. The link has been active all these years so it's just a repost. Like that Marie Laforêt-comp, it's shaped to resemble a double album:

LP 1: A+B & LP 2: C+D

"Does the hippest man ever to walk the earth need an introduction? If so, I'll let Wikipedia do it for me. Here's 16x2 of my favorite "Hi De Ho" man tunes compiled from a selection of ca. 300. Mainly taken from the 12 CD Chronological Classics - 1930-1947 collection, and the This is Hep-boxset. I definitely prefer his early days and everything included here is recorded sometime inbetween 1930-1941. I've tried to choose the best version I had available both sound-and performance-wise for each song" -Moahaha

Dream Weapons present: XMAS DELIGHTS VOL. XI C60

My approach to this eleventh ever Xmas Delights is the same as my tenth, meaning: another sentimental nostalgia trip containing nothing but the familiar sounds of unfamiliar oldies from yesteryear. Longing back and romanticising the past is simply spirit the of the season. It’s been that way for generations before us. A century ago they were already singing about celebrating Christmas in «the good old fashioned way». Yes I know I’m repeating myself, but that’s just how I like it. Treat yourself with some warm mulled wine, hot cocoa… or eggnog (if that’s your poison:) and cuddle up by the fireplace, if you can - with this, my coziest hour of seasonal music yet. I wish you all, all the best -Moahaha

Dream Weapons present: THE HUMMINGBIRDS C60

Outside my window its all grey and the rain is pouring down. I find myself in need of a mindtrip with a summerly sort of vibe. Which is exactly what I’m offering you all as well.

-The Americas is the natural habitat of the hummingbird and Latin America is primarily where they live. Much like my similarly themed: La Flor De Sur and Southwards before, I’ve collected a dozen sweet old songs and almost as many (dance) tunes - either originating from, or inspired by musical traditions from  somewhere south of Miami. Or maybe south of Key West. Once again prepare yourself for melodramatic voices, great melodies, infectious rhythms and much beauty! -Moahaha

Dream Weapons present: DARK SWEETS C90

My official mixtape "debut" from some time in late 2011. Until then I had only made compilations for myself, a few friends, former girlfriends and my wife. I’m thankful that oVo contacted me and invited me to join inn on सølγ שаябlɛş. This was the first of the two contributions I shared before it got shut down and Owl went incognito. Pretty much.

As the years have gone by I’ve found additional info and learned that what I thought was a mix filled exclusively with pre-rock 78RPM-era tunes has three songs from the 1960’s on it. But they sure sound older!

The version I'm sharing here is almost identical, but better sounding and hopefully better looking too. Here's how I presented it back when it was originally shared:

-Dark Sweets is actually a by-product of compiling hours and hours of 50 – 100 year old music from all over the world for a New Years Eve party. For this mix I singled out my favorites tunes among the obscure tracks ripped directly from 78’s. I’ve added a few hits from my own collection but tried to stay away from any tracks I’ve discovered on other comps and mixtapes. So this should be a unique listening experience for most of you -Moahaha

1. Ukulele Ike - Night Owl 1933
2. Zarah Leander - Jag Har Hört I Vindens Sus En Gång 1938
3. Victor Young - Hebrew Chant 1947

Dream Weapons present: A MILLION DREAMS AGO C60

This is the sort of music I imagine concerned moms and dads of the 1950’s were listening to while their rebellious teens were discovering the Devil’s music - aka rock ’n’ roll. Dream Weapons present: XMAS DELIGHTS X C60

As I'll be busy for most of December, Christmas comes a little early this year.

-Xmas Delights volume X is a one hundred percent sentimental nostalgia trip containing nothing but the familiar sounds of unfamiliar oldies from yesteryear. Longing back and romanticising the past is simply the spirit of the season. Its been that way for generations before us. I didn’t have a lot of time compiling this year. But fortunately I had tons of 78rpm-gems from The Internet Archive lying about already. All lovingly «remastered and reshared" by internet's (probably the whole actual planet, really) no. 1 Christmas music expert Ernie (Not Bert) - which is where and how I first discovered them. This year I think about half the contents of this mix was originally discovered at his place. Huge thanks!
