Dream Weapons present: BREEZING UP C90

It’s just a lighthearted, summer mix for you all to enjoy in the warm breeze. Gorgeous songs and melodies that sometimes has a slight edge (like a guitarist using a fuzz pedal O:), but not enough to ruin the generally pleasant mood. Unheard songs that feel somewhat familiar, I think. My "Feel Good Mix of the Summer" (but not about drugs), perhaps  -Moahaha

Dream Weapons present: ILHA FORMOSA C60

Ilha Formosa means Beautiful Island. Portuguese sailors gave the island now known as Taiwan its former name in 1542. Formosa was actually the commonly used name for Taiwan up until the 1960-1970’s. Anyway here’s a collection of female singers and male instrumentalists - all originating from this beautiful island. At least according to my information. My selection contains music spanning over 15 years, from 1968 to 1983. I recognize plenty of both Chinese and Japanese material and influences. Some (or quite a few) of these melodies are based on well known South East Asian traditional songs, but presented with an «updated» westernized approach. Which was typical for this era of Asian popular music practically everywhere, except for in North Korea. This hour of 21 tunes still feature a few peculiar surprises. For instance Taiwan had their own «moogsploitation»-like scene named after Yamaha’s electronic organ series «Electone»*. A pretty amazing discovery for me personally. Full of life, lovely and charming. Enjoy! -Moahaha

*The song in the video underneath is a perfect example of that "scene"

Added streaming option for Xmas Delights I-IV

Because why not? As they were all compiled before DWp existed, and before I knew about this streaming option thing, these have never been available as such. I had to upload III in mono, otherwise the file would have been too big. Over half the songs were in mono to begin with anyway. I much prefer mp3's of course, but I know at least some of you think streaming is more practical and handy. Enjoy! -Moahaha

Dream Weapons present: GOOD TIMES BAD TIMES C90

If this was a person, «A hot mess» would perfectly sum up these ninety minutes of music. It’s a fun and colorful collection of thirty songs. In that sense much like the misleading, but relatively fun and colorful cover art. Stylistically a little all over the place and geographically from all over the world. Plenty more good times than bad times, really. But in times like these, who wouldn’t welcome more of the former and less of the latter? Enjoy! -Moahaha

Dream Weapons present: THE WELCOME PUNCH C60:

I threw a party for my birthday not long ago, and on the cover you can see me eagerly awaiting the arrival of my first guests. The idea was to compile music for that first hour at a party - or any kind of festive gathering. There’s a lot of considerations to be taken. It’s basically background music for conversing, but it needs to be fun and hold a semi-danceable beat - although no one’s gonna dance just yet. If you don’t have a party planned sometime in the near future, pour yourself a drink, play this  - and pretend. That’s the magic of music -Moahaha

-For the four of you that downloaded the mix shortly after I posted it: I had to take down and re-upload everything, as there was a strange "skip-issue" with song no. 4 (White Salt) - now replaced with Sahara

1 Franco Micalizzi - L'ultimo Cacciatore (Seq. 5)
2 Jef Gilson feat. Célia - Le Blanc Coton
3 Jackie DeShannon - Effervescent Blue
4 Hans Stockhold - Sahara
5 Kirsti Sparboe - Hvem Har Sagt Jeg Savner Deg
6 Catherine Spaak - Sogni E Niente Più
7 Jacques Loussier  - Clara's Jerk
8 Ellie Greenwich - You Don't Know
9 Retta Young & The Devotions - The Dawning of Love
10 Orkest Ruud Bos - Sexy Music
11 Maria Creuza - Amor de Mae
12 Etienne Cap and his Orchestra - Luna Di Miele

13 Hagood Hardy & the Montage - I'll Take Love
14 Gino Marinacci - Ostinato
15 Neptunes Empire - Wichita Falls
16 Ian & The Zodiacs - It Ain't Necessarily So
17 Hiroshi Wada - Suzukane No Michi
18 The Darlettes - Lost

20 Silvia Telles - Chora Tua Tristeza
21 Roberto Menescal - Amazonas
22 Caterina Valente - Franqueza

Dream Weapons present: SOUNDS IN THE NIGHT C60

Well hello darkness, my old friend. A spooky All Hallow’s Eve-mix that doesn’t set out to actually scare you. Haunting in a comforting sort of way, and more like watching a vintage horror movie that’s not genuinely frightening to us anymore. Quite a few truly wonderful songs here. A little doom and gloom for the whole family to enjoy -Moahaha

Dream Weapons present: MOTHERS & DAUGHTERS C60

What better day than March 8 to drop another female fronted, roundabout route kind of mixtape? Much like Exploradora, Woman of the World, Take Over!, Sing it, Sister (originally shared on IWD, 2020) and A Song in the Blood before - Mothers & Daughters initially started out with me collecting a bunch of songs I've discovered over the years - that I love. But as I have a slight preference for woman’s singing voices, compilations like these simply occurs. Fourteen enchanting and lovingly performed songs (plus six instrumentals) that should do good for both your mental and physical well being. Although musically a little all over the place, I think this hour flows along quite nicely -Moahaha

1 Kay Gardner - Inner Mood I
2 Gothart - La Rosa Enflorence
3 Cher - Behind the Door
4 Clara Nunes - Meus Tempos De Criança
5 Elisabeth Waldo - Pentitente Procession
6 島倉千代子 - 恋しているんだもん
7 Sandy Posey - The Big Hurt
8 Чаровницы - Я не могу вас забыть
9 Merit Hemmingson - Skänklåt av Pers Erik Olsson
10 ピーナッツ - 宵待草

11 Maria Creuza - A Timidez me Devora
12 Gladly Playe Wyth Stryngs - Nobody's Gigge / Gathering Peascods
13 Salwa - Idaich
14 Soraya Melik - Inleyen Nagmeler
15 Daniela Casa - Santor
16 이해연  - 아리랑 정능고개
17 정미조 - 愛の瞳
18 Kay Gardner - Inner Mood II
19 Extradition - A Love Song
20 Lynsey De Paul - Moonrise

Dream Weapons present: PERENNIAL FLOWERS C60

Sing and dance along to melodies that sound like something your grandparents or rather great-grandparents could have spun at parties or in their spare time. That is if they were lucky enough to enjoy such things as parties and spare time... plus had eccentric but nevertheless impeccable taste - and owned a record player.

-Here's another wilted floral grouping of largely unheard six to eight decades old «popular music», revived. Twenty-two memorable, but strangely forgotten tunes that deserve our love and attention. This time slightly melodramatic and moonlit oldies with only a couple of fun novelty songs added in between the haunting and the heartbreak. Mostly musical expressions that hardly exist in our vocabulary anymore. Yet to me these pre-Fab Four era gems, speak directly to the heart -Moahaha

1 Djalma Ferreira e Seus Milionarios do Ritmo - Misterioso
2 Elder Barber - Jinetes en el Cielo
3 Eddie Miller And His Band - Ghost Town
4 Hank Levine & The Blazers - Midnight
5 Ronnie Chapman - Annie B. Is Gone
6 Lorrie Collins - Another Man Done Gone

9 Onilda Figueiredo - Se Deus Assim o Quis
10 Jean Bonal y sus Ritmos Brasileiros - Bongiorno Tristezza
11 Carmen Costa - Começo de Vida

12 Tomás Campos & Waldo De Los Rios - El Indio Muerto

Dream Weapons present: A SONG IN THE BLOOD C90

So here’s another download only/revisitation of an older mix once posted elsewhere. I remade the cover (as always), removed a track that had about 5 million plays by now + a tune from a guy named Maria (whom I mistook for a woman) and a France Gall-song later used by Prabha Devi etc... The end result ended up about 80% identical to the original compilation. Probably a few songs you might have heard before and the B-side has a lot of really strange transitions, but whatever. A for Alluring lyricism and B for Beer and skittles perhaps. Here what I wrote six years ago:

-I planned to build A Song in the Blood around a couple of slow and sensuous songs by April Stevens and The Paris Sisters. You know the kind of long forgotten seemingly innocent (not really all that innocent, though) sounding pop-ditties that David Lynch could dig up, use in a scene and forever transform it into a masterpiece of melancholy, desperation and gloom. But this seductive mixtape of mine never materialised.

Instead I kept adding gently intense, ghostly folk tunes, eastern european folksy-pop on the A-side, and sweet girl groups of the far east, playful ye-ye, Bollywood, japanese vocal jazz and allsorts of stuff on the B-side... A trip through the motions and around the world presented by an all female cast. It wasn't meant to be a collection of songs sung by women excusively either. It just turned out that way
-Moahaha, September 2014

1. Buffy Sainte Marie - Poppies (For Mr. Allerton)
2. Salli Terri - Estrella Do Mar
3. Eva Porubová - Jede Matúšek
4. Montreal - Infinity

7. April Stevens - That Naughty Waltz
8. Paavoharju - Kirkonväki
9. Judy Henske - Lullaby

14. Susan Reed - Three White Gulls

Dream Weapons present: SOMETHING BAD IS BETTER THAN NOTHING C60

When it comes to pursuing our goals, finding a deeper sense of purpose, or mastering a skill, doing something and taking some action is always better than doing nothing.

That is until we set a goal that is too far out of reach or our ideals gets in the way. Then our pursuit of continued action is replaced by the realization of how far we have to go to get to where we want to be. It’s then that nothing instead of something seems justifiable.

-That’s when its time to just chill, break some eggs, make an omelette and listen to something good. Like this compilation of German rock and jazz funk, Quebecois prog, Finnish folk and soft rock, American jazz, soul, hard rock, space rock and private press pop, Brazilian boogie, Turkish psychedelic funk, British modal jazz and mod pop -Lemon Fogg

Seriously - I simply forgot to post an earlier version of this at March 8 last year. Anyway I figured eighteen female fronted 1970-1980’s tunes you’ve probably never heard - that would have been big hits in a fairer world - was the appropriate mix to share on this day. Easily my most lighthearted mix ever containing gorgeous City Pop, Mandopop, Synth Pop, Latin Pop, + just plain Pop, Enka, Soul/Funk, New Wave, Blue Beat/Reggae and Vocal Jazz. Yes its Happy Hour. Well mostly… especially if you don’t too pay close attention to some of the lyrics. Cheers! -Moahaha

Dream Weapons present: LITTLE BLACK BAG C90

 https://yadi.sk/d/Q37hbZiyor7RhQ

While waiting for the next 20ft Radio-mix to broadcast I figured I might as well brush up on - and share another one of my pre-Dream Weapons C90's. Its probably brand new to most of you blog visitors anyway. Upon relistening I enjoyed it way more than I though I would. An unpretentious, non-conceptual bag of freaky fun, I think. Eight years ago these tunes were all ultra obscure (even Drowning in Berlin & Yeweyn Haregitu).

-An eclectic mix of japanese waltzes, vintage electronics, strings & discobeats, fast flowing chanteuses, fun rides, badtrips, space-sweeps, and some occult jazzfusion. Once you opened this Pandoras purse and unleashed all its mysteries and dark little secrets, there's no turning back

Dream Weapons present: ARIRANG MOUNTAIN PASS (SONG SEARCH VOL. 2) C60

https://yadi.sk/d/Y57as9nGpkEVzQ

To keep things fresh and exiting for the second volume I’ve collected about as many 60’s/70’s dreamy pop and folk-grooves as those gorgeous trot-oldies we've all come to love. One gripping duet and a couple of instrumentals - but basically just ladies singing from beginning to end - ‘cause most of their male South Korean counterparts ruins potentially great tunes with an excessive vibrato. Here’s the slightly adjusted, short version of the backstory written for Volume 1:

-Many moons ago a former flatmate had this wondrous 1960’s or early 70’s female fronted, South Korean Trot/folk-pop record that we used to spin all the time. In my unsuccessful search for that original album I came across hours of enchanting folk, pop and gentle trot-oldies from the same era instead. Here’s another hour of "accidental" song discoveries and if you fail to find anything to love, I’m afraid you better go see a cardiologist asap -Moahaha

2. 이미자 / Lee Mija - 밤의 정거장 / The Night Station

A handful of gentle, heartwarming tracks to keep you and your bottle of fine wine company on cold autumn evenings, while the rain ever so gently taps on your window. This tape starts of a bit Eurocentric, but broadens slightly as it moves along.

Again a mix compiled by myself, containing some tracks supplied by Moahaha.

Enjoy.

Dream Weapons present: MY DEAR LIFE C60 by Glockenspiel

For the first time in ages, we present a guestmix. Big thanks to mr Glockenspiel for his contribution!

- Sadhu Sadhu

My Dear Life is an eclectic mix of library music, French baroque pop, some obscure acid folk and some Beatlesque tunes. It makes for a dreamy and at times almost sacral listen. There’s not really a cohesive theme here, but I usually prefer it that way. You don’t really know what’s coming next, and that keeps you from drifting off and forget about what you listen to. Hope you enjoy this mix and share it with others.”
