Dream Weapons present: WHAT IN THE WORLD C90

UPDATE: I noticed I had two versions of the same song: Ali Beirut's Orientales - Chifti and used one on Age of Gold, and the other on this. So I uploaded an alternative / similiar song for you (with the same songlength). Just press download, prove that you're not a robot and replace Chifti with: Anastacios Smirniotis Orchestra - Zeus Nitsi (Sultan's Dream) (with edited/updated cover art attached to the songfile)

An Asian/African/Eastern European mixture of songs and tunes that I think complement each other. The main ingedient that somehow make it work, is always the folk element. Local traditions from around the world is the unifying theme. In times like these, isn’t that kind of nice to think about? And the actual music is all kinds of lovely as well -Moahaha

-I had originally planned for What in the World to be a wilder and more sprawling mix. But while working on it, things took a different turn. So just before posting I scrapped the original cover art, and replaced it. The image didn't really fit the musical content anymore. But I'm sure some of you will prefer the weirder one anyway:

    1. Thank you for the comment, Crazy Monkey. I don't know:) I suppose year's of practice in "stumbling over hidden gems" has made me quite good at singling them out when I hear them - or something like that.

  3. The more I listen to this compilation, I'm increasingly impressed and pleased by the gems from the past you're helping us discover. I keep thinking—and I'm agree with friends who also follow DW—that you must either work in a curatorial or sound library at a university or research center, because otherwise, it's hard to understand where the hell you're getting all these recordings from. Even for me (not a professional musician but neuroscientist, haha), since my distant adolescence until now, I've dedicated a large part of my life to researching and collecting music from a wide repertoire, therefore, I consider myself familiar with diverse musical expressions; furthermore, as main tool, I've still used Soulseek for about 20 years ago (a program that remains an inexhaustible source of sonic wonders that I would otherwise have no chance of discovering in my life)...achieving that level of musical knowledge is beyond my capabilities.

Anyway, it's good that it's this way :)

    Thank you, my dear friend.

    1. Thank you again dear friend - and thank your friends as well:) As you and your friends guesses about my line of work, are very flattering. Apart from some occasional DJ'ing, I operate in another (creative) field than music. I'm only an obsessive, music loving amateur. Actually me being anonymous here, is for various practical reasons. Especially when people misunderstand what this blog is about, and think Dream Weapons present make and sell physical objects of these mixtapes. Perhaps not that unlike your own reasons for presenting yourself as Crazy Monkey. But I if you want to know who I am, I don't mind telling you. Just not here. I've never once used Soulseek, btw.

  4. We agree on the anonymity thing (it's not the messengers that matter, just the message) and we're also undoubtedly addicted to music in almost all its forms; fifteen years ago, when I started my first blog, I did it precisely to be able to share my interests and give back to so many old-school bloggers who taught me so much, and until now, despite the changes our digital world has undergone, I maintain the idea of sharing tastes in this way.

I hope your motivation to insist on keeping the blog alive remains intact, therefore the inexhaustible source of emotions that is DW will fuelling the curiosity of earthly harmonies lovers for a long long time to come.

Could a collaboration between DW and Distorted Cortex someday be possible? I can imagine the stochastic eclecticism of that fusion.

    Hugs from South America.
