… but fear itself. But apart from the title, Nothing to Fear isn’t inspired by this famous quote from Franklin D. Roosevelt's first inauguration speech. I undertook the task of compiling an hour of tunes that could resemble a collection of horror/giallo score music - while using tracks that aren’t from such films. In fact only two of the songs are lifted from a soundtrack at all.
The eerie beauty of themes composed for vintage horror movies has always held a special place in my music loving heart. While taken out of their visual context, the melodies tend to radiate dreamy melancholy and sadness, rather than something truly sinister. Contemporary scores rarely give me anything, but music seemingly inspired by the aforementioned «golden age» is still being made. So the lion’s share of bands and artists featured, are actually from today’s era.

Btw: I'll probably allow myself a little summer vacation from music nerding for a month, maybe longer. But I'll be back:)
This autumn evening in the southern hemisphere, once my daughter's tenth birthday party was over, I gave myself the time I needed to relax after the hustle and bustle. So I decided to accompany myself with this wonderful compilation, and I can tell you that it's to my complete liking. As always, I'm so impressed by some very eccentric sounds, which I believe somehow represent the world of Italian giallo, but perhaps from a more underground sphere than we usually hear.
ReplyDeleteThank you very much once again. Enjoy this well-deserved break from your activities; I'd like to send you an email with some suggestions, let me know what you think.

Sounds nice - glad Nothing to Fear was posted just in time for your well deserved relaxation time:). I suppose what I was really after, was to recreate a certain mood or moods rather than "I made a horror/giallo-mix!". No one would ever mistake There Will Come Soft Rains or A Boy's Best Friend for either. But I think they go well together (and made it more interesting) with those included here that could very well have been from an authentic 1970's horrorscore. I look forward to your suggestions. If I don't reply immediately, it's simply because I'm busier than usual these days.
Deleteenjoy your vacation. and thank you for the music.
ReplyDeleteWou're welcome, and thank you, too:)
DeleteWonderful selections as always, Moahaha. June and July get gloomy, cold and rainy where I live so my mood has definetively matched the past few uploads.
ReplyDelete-Appreciate your comment and glad you're enjoying the selection, Mantaray. I'm really more of an autumn guy over summer anyway. Actually compared to others, the weather doesn't seem to have much of an impact on my mood. I can be miserable while the sun is shining and a happy camper all dark winterlong.
Deleteyes enjoy your time not nerding, thanks for all you do!
ReplyDeleteThanks! - and it's my pleasure:)
